First Order of Business
Okay so, first thing’s first.
What is it that we want to set out to accomplish? I think for this project, I really want to explore EOS (Epic Online Services) in a co-op setup.
EOS provides the ability for us to deploy a relatively developer-friendly approach to building client-host multiplayer, which is ideal for a solo developer on a time budget for this project.
Hopefully the journey will be interesting and full of lessons learned. Oh and this project will be Unreal Engine 5.3 stack. It’s the engine of choice that I use for work on a daily basis so it’s ideal I suppose.
((If not I’d have chosen something like ebitengine on golang ahahaha!))
So, next I suppose is exploring early prototype ideas for gameplay and for visuals (Shoutout to Boy to showing the approach of splitting prototypes into two distinct explorations, going to try that technique out in this project). Where we’d (me, myself and I) like to go. Ideally this early idea is solidified by tonight and we have a build we can upload. (A tad hopeful there lad!)
Wish me luck!
So, first thing I want to try is to see how difficult it would be to setup EOS on a default UE project. This involves setting up the Developer Stuff for EOS Plugin, setting up the product, client configs, etc.
